Volunteer with Peace for All Canada
Peace For All Canada in partnership with the East African community, the African women alliance and the Social Development Centre, are appealing to you to volunteer two to four hours a week to provide after-school homework support for children in grades 1-12.
The project will start on September 21/2020-June/2021. The project location is at the Social Development Centre Waterloo Region 23 Water St. North, Kitchener.
As you may have heard that immigrant children are falling behind academically due to structural violence, which is exacerbated by the impact of COVID-19.
Few immigrant households have access to online education materials, computers and access to reliable internet.
Many immigrant families, kids and youth do not have mechanisms to communicate online during the pandemic. In addition, most parents work in low pay jobs, physically exhausting and unpredictable working schedules.
These factors hinder parents’ ability to support their kids during these difficult times of COVID-19.

Furthermore, these factors increase the vulnerability of immigrant families, children and youth to mental health crises.
Many of them were already dealing with mental health issues prior to COVID-19.
The social and economic impact of the pandemic, coupled with isolation, has exacerbated their anxiety, stress and mental health.
That is why we call upon you to sand with them and stand on the right side of history by volunteering your time to support them.
The after-school program will support estimated 100 children and provide in-person and/or online homework support for grade 1-12 school-age children.
In class sessions, we will observe COVID-19 protocols, including (a maximum of ten students in class at a time, with 2 feet distance, wearing of masks, etc).
